Web-based Real-time Video Indexing

This paper presents a new approach to video indexing. Traditionally used as a means for video asset reuse, indexing can also be used to create TV shows and build stories faster. This is a major advantage for creators of shows that have short time-to-air, such as reality TV and news shows. The paper explains how to use indexing in this way, by redrawing the production workflow and moving the indexing process upstream to the actual shoot, in what is called real-time indexing. Next, it looks at Web-based search and story-building tools, compressed video and natural language descriptions as ways of supporting real-time indexing.

HDV Shoot, Index and Edit

This paper is a co-production of Miranda Technologies and Lanterna Magica. It introduces Reality HDV, Lanterna Magica’s real-time indexing and HDV storage system. Reality HDV integrates into an HDV workflow for creating unscripted shows such as reality TV. It uses Miranda’s camera-mounted ASI-Bridge CAM to convert the HDV signal to ASI, transport it over long distances and feed Reality HDV via the HD-Bridge Dec+.
